Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19)
An Update on ComfortOfLiving Retirement Efforts
As e COVID- 19 is the forefront of the news today. There are changes every day to what is happening and how Canadian/Provincial Governments and Public Health are handling this crisis. At Comfort of living we take the wellbeing of our staff and Residents very seriously and have put measures in place to keep both Residents and Staff well.
All our facilities have their doors locked and only essential services are allowed in. When someone does come into the building we are screening them by taking their temperatures and asking the questions that we have been given for screening purposes. Residents are being reminded continuously to wash their hands and increased cleaning measures have been put into place in our facilities, especially in high traffic areas. We are asking Resident’s and Families to limited the times that they go out themselves or take our Resident’s out and are asking that they not be in areas where there are large gatherings or malls. When the Resident returns to the building they are screened. We have cancelled all outside activities and any activities open to the public. Staff that have been out of the country are asked to self isolate themselves for 14 days before coming back to work and staff that show signs of the virus have been asked to stay home and self isolate.
In addition to visitor restrictions, the following procedures have been implemented:
• We have set up daily conference calls so that all our Managers in our Facilities are able to touch base so that we can help each other through this plus there is a contact number that our Managers can access 24 hours a day.
• Weekly infection control conference call with all general managers and Director of Care to discuss any new developments and plan for week ahead
• Cancellation of events open to the community
• Increasing hand sanitizing station throughout the Home
• Providing daily updates and training to all front line staff
• On the chance that one or more of our homes does go into outbreak each home have their employees ready and plans in place so that we can make sure our Residents are kept safe.
• Families are updated on a regular basis by our facebook pages and if something drastically changes phone calls and emails are sent out.
• Cancellation of management/staff plans to attend conferences or large group activities or events
It is important for all of us to follow the guidelines that are set out by Public Health, RHRA and ORCA. We feel that it is deeply necessary to do our part during this time. It is our priority to keep our residents, staff, providers and community as safe and healthy as possible.
