Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19)

An Update on ComfortOfLiving Retirement Efforts

REVISED APR 05 / 2020

REVISED APRIL 05 / 2020

Dear families and friends,

As you are all aware, we are now into our 3rd week of restrictions due to COVID-19 here at our facilities. We would like to update you and reassure you that we continue to work hard to maintain these restrictions to keep our residents safe.

Over a week ago we were also requested by the Chief Medical Officer to prevent residents from leaving the building / property.

As we have so many wonderful supportive families who spend a lot of time with their loved ones this was a bigger challenge.

We are once again asking families and friends to support our efforts to have your loved ones remain at the facility, and not going to family gatherings, appointments etc.

The more exposure they have to the outside world presently, increases their risk of contracting COVID-19. Please continue to find ways to communicate to us, via the phone, computer, and notes.

As COVID-19 is now in our direct vicinity it is more important than ever to keep our residents protected. We made the decision last week to remove any outside essential workers from our facilities, this means if your loved one was receiving homecare in the form of morning assistance, a bath, or bedtime care, our healthcare staff has been assuming that care at no cost to you.

We needed to make some modifications in order to accommodate this care, but we feel that this has minimized the resident risk even further, as those workers are also working in the community.  Even though they were screened each time they came into the building they still posed a risk were not willing to take. We were assured that once all of these precautions are lifted they will have their homecare assistance resumed under the LHIN.

The safety and well-being of our vulnerable residents is our top priority.  We are working closely with the Ministry of Health and the Chief Medical Officer to ensure we are meeting all the recommendations, as well as the expectations from our residents and families.  On Wednesday April 1st, 2020 we also received further directive from the Ministry that we are to be taking temperatures for all residents in the morning and the evening, and in addition all staff are now to have their temps taken when they arrive at work and prior to leaving.

Thank you very much for your support, and encouragement as we go forward with the welfare of your family member our highest priority.

Best Regards, Sam Riad
